A year of The Parent Village

When we first started talking about setting up The Parent Village, we were really clear we wanted it to be a parent led space, where we could offer practical support where parents commonly feel adrift or isolated.

Let’s face it, when we become parents we have very little idea of what is actually in store for us and just as we get used to each phase of our children’s development they go and change on us!

The world is also changing and the ways in which we were parented (because let’s face it this is where we really learn how to be a parent) no longer fits with the world we are raising our children in.

The recently published National Parent Survey (2023) has found that parents do not feel heard or supported when it comes to helping their children's anxiety and mental health. This feeling is increased for parents of autistic children and those with ADHD and other learning difficulties. This echoes what we experience in our work with parents in our groups, workshops and one to one coaching. You can read more about the findings here

It drives The Parent Village commitment to parent led evidence-based support that gives parents practical support and a place to belong and support each other. Over our first year we have worked with 92 parents, built our community to over 100 parents and we were able to engage five parent facilitators to lead on projects. Over 70% of parents have shared that they are keen to do more work with us and be interested in supporting and designing projects that support other parents. You can read more about our work and impact here.

We are really excited for what 2024 holds and working with you on our 2024 priorities!
